Architect Joseph Ploshko

European architects built and created in Baku from the second half of the 19th century. Among them was the talented Polish architect Joseph Ploshko. Thanks to his great talent and diligence, Ploshko established a splendid reputation and conquered Baku people`s hearts with his beautiful architectural works. Young Ploshko closely studied the architectural and construction life of the city, local building materials, mainly limestone, which has beautiful artistic features, and later skillfully used it in his buildings.Ploshko's architectural works were of of rich elaborated style: European classicism, high-class Venetian and French Gothic, especially the modern style that was in vogue at the turn of the century. Joseph Ploshko's contribution to the architecture of Baku is of great importance. The "Ismailiyya Palace", which is one of the works of art of the famous architect (now the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan), the "Phenomen" Cinema (now the Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre), residential houses and buildings, public, civil, religious buildings of the residents of our city and pleases the eyes of our guests. Ploshko took his another large order from Baku millionaire Murtuza Mukhtarov. The millionaire commissioned the design of the palace to Joseph Ploshko to make his wife's dreams come true.
